Students, faculty and staff have full access to a collection of more than 60,000 volumes, more than 100 current print periodicals and newspapers, online databases, as well as extensive media holdings. The Rare Book Room houses numerous irreplaceable texts; please see the library staff for more information. Books, periodical articles and other materials not available in the collection can be acquired for students, faculty and staff through interlibrary loan. The Stangel Academic Computer Lab houses computers, scanners and printers for Silver Lake College community members’ use. This facility offers computer assistance and is open throughout the day and evening when classes are in session. The computer lab provides internet access, email and software for word processing, spreadsheets, document publishing and Inspiration software supporting visual thinking. Discipline specific software is installed at the request of college departments. Additionally, computer labs are available in the art department, music department, the Erma M. & Theodore M. Zigmunt Library, the Academic Resource Center, Clare Hall, the Ariens Family Welcome Center, and the Laker Lunchbox.
The Academic Resource Center is a service to all students to assist them in their academic success. Services include tutoring, study groups, proofreading and editing assistance, test-taking strategies and skills, research assistance, mentoring and placement exams. Computers are available for student use as well. The center staff serves as a resource for students, provides ADA accommodations and facilitates Credit-for-Prior-Learning.
