Candidates complete a two-credit practicum in the area of each license sought.
General Guideline General Guideline: All work in the Administrative Leadership Program should be viewed in the light of the Conceptual Framework for all Silver Lake College Education Programs, that is, your growth as a Professional Educator who values Scholarship and Leadership, Commitment to Others, and Reflective Practice. In particular, the focus of Administrative Leadership program is your development as a visionary leader, resourceful manager, reflective educator, as well as an expert practitioner in your license area. Growth in all aspects of the Conceptual Framework and Program Focus should be your aim in your practicum and should be clearly evidenced in your final report. Specific learning goals for the experience must be guided by the Wisconsin Administrator Standards, knowledge, skills, and dispositions for your particular license.
PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE
To achieve the program objective of providing candidates with a blend of both academic and experiential learning -- theory and practice in the educational setting, candidates are required to do a practicum experience in their licensure area. Advance planning for this begins early in the candidate's program; final planning must be initiated with the Advisor two months in advance of the term in which the experience will be undertaken. The Advisor assists each candidate in designing a Licensure Practicum Experience which will further the candidate’s growth and proficiency in the Wisconsin School Administrator standards, specifically to
a. provide deeper insight into the licensure role and practice in the typical job responsibilities of that role,
b. provide practice and reinforce learning in the areas of the licensure competencies,
c. provide a breadth of experience, including working with diverse student and staff populations
d. contribute to district goals and objectives,
e. contribute to candidate growth in the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for effective school administration.
Practicum tasks, leadership experiences, and reflections on the learning from these experiences are entered on the candidate's online log pages and are monitored by the Advisor.
Enrolled candidates will find the Practicum Module of the Administrative Leadership Manual in the Course Folders in Educator. |
