Program Requirements

General Program Completion/Licensure Requirements
 -- apply to all candidates

  1. Mastery of competencies and completion of practicum experiences as stipulated for particular category of enrollment,
  2. Participation in monthly Topic Seminars (attendance at a minimum of seven per academic year) and interactive work online.
  3. Proficiency Demonstration: 
    1. Application in Practice: A focused Application in Practice Activity is implemented and evaluated as a part of each competency completion.
    2. Collaborative Demonstration:  Proficiency in collaborative and group process skills as well as in oral presentation is demonstrated through active participation in a variety of sharing and discussion modes at the seminars.
    3. Culminating Presentation: Compilation and formal presentation of an evidentiary portfolio which focuses on  competency proficiency in the light of the program's conceptual framework and goals and the Wisconsin school administrator standards; that is demonstrates the candidate's overall growth and development as a visionary leader, resourceful manager, reflective educator. 
  4. Time limit for completion:
    1. Degree candidates: Seven (7) years according to general college policy. However, we recommend that, under ordinary circumstances, candidates do not choose to spread their program out over this length of time.
    2. Licensure only candidates: Four (4) years
    3. Add-on licensure candidates: Two (2) years

Specific Requirements - Degree-seeking Candidates (32 credits)

  1. General program completion requirements (top)
  2. Competency requirement: fifteen (15) competencies (Completion of each is worth 2 graduate credits.)
  3. Practicum requirement: completion of a practicum experience in the licensure area - 2 graduate credits
  4. Comprehensive examination paper

Specific Requirements - Licensure-only Candidates (minimum: 18 credits)
-- option for candidates who already hold a Master's degree

  1. General program completion requirements (top)
  2. Competency requirement: completion of competencies chosen to complement previous graduate work and stipulated for candidate’s individualized program (minimum of eight (8) competencies - five (5) core plus the three (3) licensure competencies),
  3. Practicum requirement: completion of a practicum experience in the licensure area
  4. Completion of a "prior learning" portfolio section which includes evidentiary documentation of proficiency in the prior work that is accepted for the program.

Specific Requirements - Add-on License Candidates (minimum: 12 credits)
(This model of add-on license is available only to candidates whose initial administrator license was granted under PI34. Other add-on candidates will be under the requirements for Licensure-only candidates.)

  1. General program completion requirements (top)
  2. Competency requirement: completion of a minimum of five competencies which include the three licensure competencies, a general leadership competency designed to assure an understanding of the philosophy of the program plus current issues and trends in education, and School Law.
  3. Practicum requirement: completion of one practicum experience which must be in the licensure area.
  4. Completion of a "prior learning" portfolio section which includes evidentiary documentation of proficiency in the prior work that is accepted for the program.
  5. Consideration for candidates who completed the SLC licensure program: Candidates who completed the SLC program under PI34 and who apply for and begin an add-on license program within one year of completion (two term absence) are required to complete only the licensure competencies for the added license.
