Opportunities for Senior Citizens
This program offers Senior Citizens, 55 years of age or older, an opportunity to register as an "auditing student" in selected undergraduate classes offered during the spring and fall semesters at Silver Lake College. Silver Lake College is proud to provide this opportunity to area Senior Citizens who want to fulfill their educational dreams by attending college to learn more about themselves and the world in which they live.
Questions about the program:
What educational background do I need to enroll in this program?
Any Senior Citizen, 55 years of age or older, with or without a college degree can register for undergraduate courses designated under this program.
How often do these classes meet?
Most classes meet once or twice each week.
What does "auditing" mean?
An "auditing" student attends classes, completes reading assignments and participates in class discussions. "Auditing students are not required to take tests, do not receive grades and do not earn academic credits for the courses they audit.
How much will this cost per semester?
A Senior Citizen who enrolls pays $120.00 per course. Buying textbooks and paying specific fees for certain courses are the only other expenses.
Will these classes include only Senior Citizens?
All of these classes will include undergraduate students, who are studying for specific degrees. This is one of the major advantages of the program. Having senior citizens in classes with undergraduate students creates a valuable environment for class discussion where both types of students learn from each other.
