Integrated Science Minor

Integrated Science Program Goals

The Integrated Natural Science Minor Program offers students the foundation for a broad scientific literacy by understanding the nature of science and the fundamental principles of biological, physical, and earth sciences in their interrelationships. This minor is an excellent complement to a Biology Major and is the preferred choice for science teachers seeking Broadfield Science certification in middle level education.

Minor Requirement Options

Option 1: For Biology Majors Pursuing Graduate Studies

  1. CHM 101 General Chemistry I4
  2. CHM 102 General Chemistry II4
  3. CHM 201 Organic Chemistry I4
  4. CHM 202 Organic Chemistry II4
  5. PHY 201 General Physics I4
  6. PHY 202 General Physics II4

Option 2: For Biology Majors or Other Majors Without Graduate Requirements

  1. BIO 104 General Biology4
  2. CHM 101 General Chemistry I4
  3. PHY 203 Physical Science OR PHY 201 General Physics4
  4. ESC 105 Earth Science4
  5. Additional credits may be taken from BIO, ESC, CHM, or PHY offerings 6

Any additional credits may be taken from other BIO, ESC, CHM, or PHY offerings according to background needed for career plans.

Option 3: For Students Seeking Teacher Licensure in General Science

  1. BIO 104 General Biology4
  2. BIO 271 Environmental Science3
  3. PHY 103 Physical Science OR PHY 201 General Physics4
  4. ESC 105 Earth Science4
  5. NSC 405 Integrated Science2

Any additional credits may be taken from other BIO, ESC, CHM, or PHY offerings according to student need to pass the exit exam in General Science. The Integrated Science course above addressed the major themes of science with emphasis on integrating the content and processing skills of the academic standards not included in other science courses.

Students with an Integrated Natural Science Minor seeking teaching certification in Broadfield Science for middle level/early adolescence (633) are required to complete the elementary education major, and Methods and Student Teaching in Science.
