Neighborhood Network Learning Center
The Southfield Townhouses Neighborhood
Network Learning Center is a collaborative effort among the
United States Department of Housing and Urban Development,
Southfield Townhouses, Community Economic Redevelopment Corporation of
Wisconsin, Ten South Management, and Silver Lake College.
About the Neighborhood Network
In June 2002, the Southfield Townhouses Neighborhood Network
Learning Center opened. It provides access to technology and
educational opportunities along with resources, classes, and
activities in order to strengthen the social and economic welfare of
adults and children. Organizations that work with the
Southfield Townhouses Neighborhood Network Learning Center are the YMCA,
Salvation Army, Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Natural Ovens, Roncalli High
School, Manitowoc Public School District, Manitowoc County Domestic
Violence Center, Manitowoc Police Department, Girl Scouts of Manitou
Council, UW Cooperative Extension, Aurora Healthcare, Catholic
Charities, Manitowoc Job Center, Nuclear Management, Manitowoc
Public Library, Kids CAN, US Bank, and Silver Lake College as well
as many other agencies and organizations.
Technology and Educational Opportunities
- The NNLC hosts 13 computers, all with Internet access.
- After school help with homework, activities, and tutoring.
- Access to General Equivalent Diploma and English as
a Second Language courses on-line.
- Job-training, interviewing skills, other employability skills
and job information.
- Group and individual tutoring sessions.
- Information on community resources.
- Group activities such as summer camps and gardening,
reading program, clubs and groups, etc.
- On-site supervised playroom for younger children to use while
parents use resources.
Community agencies/organizations bring their services/information
and educational classes to the center site. Classes and information

Volunteering
The Learning Center is for the residents of the Southfield
Townhouses. All of the residents contribute to the success or
failure of the project. The care and respect given to the Center by
each individual affects all members of the complex. Those interested
in volunteering can help in the areas of: childcare, maintenance,
tutoring,
helping with classes, reading to children, and office work. Anyone
interested in volunteering their time and skills to the Center may
