Athletic Clubs & Organizations
Silver Lake College-sponsored teams in the Manitowoc Recreation Leagues include basketball, volleyball, and softball for both men and women, plus couples volleyball. On-campus activities have included ping-pong, pool, cribbage and football tournaments, ballroom dancing and yoga. Recreation League membership is open to all students. Silver Lake College provides intercollegiate competition in women's basketball and men's and women's cross country.
Requirements and Eligibility for Intercollegiate Sports:
- To be eligible for participation in intercollegiate sports, students
must meet the following requirements:
- Be full-time students, i.e. carry at least 12 credits per semester
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. For incoming freshman, this is interpreted to mean that their high school GPA meets similar standards.
-
A student who has become ineligible at the end of the semester may not
compete on an intercollegiate team on an after the first day of the
following semester. A student who has been ineligible
in one term and
regains standing is eligible to compete immediately upon official
notice. This also applies to a student who is eligible to compete but
has not been in attendance during the preceding semester. - Athletes are eligible for only four years of intercollegiate participation in any one sport while attending a 4-year institution. Transfer students are immediately eligible and are bound by the four-year limit.
- No athletes shall register a false statement with regard to name, residence, or previous college athletic participation.
Recreation League Sports:
- No academic regulations exist for participation in recreational sports.
- A student may only play on one recreational team of the same sport at the same time.
- Recreation League team membership must be at least 51% Silver Lake College students.
- Any student residing outside of Manitowoc City limits must pay one-half of the fee required for non-residents.
Outdoor Volleyball Court:
The beach sand volleyball court located in the "backyard" is available for use by students and college personnel. The net is up from May through early November (weather permitting). Volleyballs are located in pails (which can also be used to store those pesky rocks that appear on the court from time to time) at the court site. Please feel free to make use of this "fun facility." A more formal coed volleyball league is in place during the fall semester for those students, faculty, administrators, and staff who have an interest in putting teams together for some friendly competition.
Manitowoc Collegiate Dance Team:
The Manitowoc Collegiate Dance Team performs during half time at the Silver Lake College Women's Basketball games and the UW-Manitowoc Men and Women's Basketball games. The Dance team is made up of women from Silver Lake College and UW-Manitowoc. Tryouts for the Dance Team are held in the Fall and weekly practices are held during the Fall and Spring Semesters.
