History

Founded in 1925, the Holy Family Conservatory of Music was established by two young Franciscan Sisters who had recently graduated from the Bush Conservatory in Chicago, and hoped to generate interest in music among the students in the St. Boniface Convent School. They were highly successful – their program quickly outgrew available space at the Convent and their request for a dedicated facility was granted. The Sisters moved into the downtown Manitowoc home that would house the Conservatory for the next 88 years with little more than three pianos and benches. The program continued to grow and has served thousands of students and families over the years, and the Sisters continue to provide comprehensive music instruction to people of all ages.

Mission Statement

Holy Family Conservatory of Music is a unique institution of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity founded to share with students, their families and the surrounding community the beauty of music; instructing, encouraging and promoting performance and appreciation skills, as well as growth in reverence for all persons. In the tradition of Saint Francis of Assisi and our Foundresses, we recognize the power of music to transform the ordinary, to heal broken spirits, to unite hearts, to nurture and form the inner spirit and to help persons to encounter God. In this spirit, we gratefully continue the tradition begun in 1925.

Curriculum

The music curriculum at Holy Family Conservatory provides many opportunities for students to develop their talents in whatever direction they may wish to go. Not only performance skills, but comprehensive music knowledge is included in the sequence of courses. Eight instructors provide lessons in piano, organ, strings, winds, guitar, harp, and rudimental percussion.
