Silver Lake College Presents Steinbrecher-Mayer Honors Recital For Music Students on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 pm

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family Department of Fine Arts is delighted to present the Steinbrecher-Mayer Honors Recital on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 7:00pm. The recital will take place in Bob & Pat Endries Hall, a 464-seat theater located in the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on the campus of Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc. Lakers fall to Northland International University

The Lakers lost a close game last night at Northland International University by the score of 81-78 on a last second shot from deep in the corner. The team came out looking tired and turnovers were a challenge. At one time they held a 6 point lead but were then down by 8 points several times. In the end Northland determined the outcome of the game.

Lady Lakers Defeat Northland International University

The Lady Lakers improved their record to 3-1 by defeating the Northland International University Lady Pioneers by the score of 79 -69. Our young team is beginning to play very well together especially on offense. Everyone on the roster scored points last night. Despite having some lapses on defense, we played well on offense working the ball around and getting some very good looks to the basket. Leading the Lady Lakers was Courtney Clavers with a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Gerhard from Iron Mountain, Michigan came off the bench and added 17 points. Lyndsay Holschbach added 10 points.

Men's Basketball Game v. St Xavier

This past Saturday, the Men’s basketball team took on the NAIA D-II 11th rated St Xavier Cougars at home. The near capacity crowd did not have to wait long for excitement. Darius Barnes, a Freshman from Milwaukee scored 10 of his Laker Leading 28 points in the first three minutes including two monster dunks as the Lakers jumped out to a 10-5 lead. The Lakers continued to go toe to toe with the Cougars and took a 47-45 lead into the locker room at the half thanks to a great tip in at the buzzer by Sophomore Austin Allen Walker from Milwaukee.

Cross Country National Championship Update

We have exciting news from cold and snowy New York. Mary Bettag had a very impressive run finishing 29th. The top 25 receives All American status. She just missed that honor. Taylor VandenPlas also did extremely well with a 55th place. Sophia Chin ran and great race for her 1st National appearance, finishing a respectable 110th place. All three young ladies represented Silver Lake extremely well.

FSCC Founders' Day Remembrance

For 144 years the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have dedicated themselves to the love of God and service to the People of God.  On November 9, 1869, five young Catholic women in rural Wisconsin responded to the inner call to give all to their Lord, Jesus Christ and to serve the needs of this pioneer land. Today the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity continue to strive whole-heartedly to live the spirit of their foundresses.  The 21st century may present challenges which appear different from those the founding Sisters had experienced. However, the Sisters’ response is the same: “to observe the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, living in obedience, in poverty and in chastity.”

Men's Basketball Team Falls to Calumet College of St Joseph at the Bradley Center

Last night the Silver Lake College men’s basketball team fell to the Calumet College of St Joseph Crimson Wave 84–78 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Calumet, a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, jumped out to a 17 point lead in the first half as the Lakers came out sluggish from the start. In the second half, the Lakers came out with the hot hand and erased the 17 point deficit tying the score on a 3 point shot with eight minutes left by sophomore Dru Harris from Appleton. Calumet regained the lead for good on the next possession. The Lakers had four players in double figures; Javaughn Freeman led the way with 13 and John Duke, Darius Barnes and Anthony Parker each contributed 12. Other players contributing to the comeback were Tyler Wells sophomore from Canton, Ohio with 3 points, Austin Walker 6 points, Raul Neri 2 points, Dru Harris 6 points, Kyle Lundberg 6 points and Derek Domino with 6 points.
