Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is delighted to host three exciting public events on Saturday, December 7th at 2406 South Alverno Road in Manitowoc:
Sitting down with Chris Rettler on a cool, windy November afternoon, it is not hard to see the impact that her personal meeting with President Kennedy and his assassination have had on her as she pages through a book on John F. Kennedy. Rettler recently celebrated fifty years in education and continues to teach students at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family in her role as assistant professor of Education. It is on this windy day, about a week before the fiftieth anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination, that she shares her story of meeting Kennedy and how it has personally shaped her and also, her career.
Yesterday the men’s basketball team traveled to Sault Ste. Marie and lost to a strong Lake Superior State University team out of the NCAA D-II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 92-55. Our Lakers played their Lakers toe to toe throughout the first half. Lake Superior State, who took NCAA D-I Central Michigan into overtime before falling a week earlier, jumped out to a 14-7 lead four minutes into the contest. However our Lakers went on a 9-0 run and took the lead 16-14 with thirteen and a half minutes left. Our Lakers extended the lead to 20-16 half way through the half before Lake Superior went on a 15-0 run to take the lead for good 31-20.
The Lady Lakers basketball team fell to 3-2 last night with a loss to a strong Ashford University team 66-43. Despite playing hard, the Lady Lakers did not shoot well in the first half and relied on really good defense to keep them in the game with a halftime score of 31 to 21. They continued to struggle with shooting in the second half and Ashford opened up a 16 point lead. The Lady Lakers never gave up and with excellent defense and some timely shots pulled within 8 points by midway through the second half. Ashford then went on a 8 to 0 scoring run giving them a 16 point lead, and the Lady Lakers could not make up the difference. Leading the way for the Lady Lakers were Courtney Clavers from Brillion with 11 points and Raelyn Woock with 10 points and 4 steals. Next, the Lady Lakers take on UW Manitowoc on Wednesday December 4th at 6:00 pm.
