Cross Country National Championship Update

We have exciting news from cold and snowy New York. Mary Bettag had a very impressive run finishing 29th. The top 25 receives All American status. She just missed that honor. Taylor VandenPlas also did extremely well with a 55th place. Sophia Chin ran and great race for her 1st National appearance, finishing a respectable 110th place. All three young ladies represented Silver Lake extremely well.

Men's Basketball Team Falls to Calumet College of St Joseph at the Bradley Center

Last night the Silver Lake College men’s basketball team fell to the Calumet College of St Joseph Crimson Wave 84–78 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Calumet, a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, jumped out to a 17 point lead in the first half as the Lakers came out sluggish from the start. In the second half, the Lakers came out with the hot hand and erased the 17 point deficit tying the score on a 3 point shot with eight minutes left by sophomore Dru Harris from Appleton. Calumet regained the lead for good on the next possession. The Lakers had four players in double figures; Javaughn Freeman led the way with 13 and John Duke, Darius Barnes and Anthony Parker each contributed 12. Other players contributing to the comeback were Tyler Wells sophomore from Canton, Ohio with 3 points, Austin Walker 6 points, Raul Neri 2 points, Dru Harris 6 points, Kyle Lundberg 6 points and Derek Domino with 6 points.

Lady Lakers vs Judson University, Tuesday November 5

The Lady Lakers basketball team played extremely hard but could not pull out victory against a very tough Judson University team. Despite playing very hard on defense throughout the game the young Lady Lakers lost by a score of 88 to 67. Turnover is what hurt us especially early in the game. We were down by as much as 18 points in the first half. With adjustments in our defense and were able to pull within 8 points in the first half. In the second half we again turned the ball over early, and went quickly to a 14 point deficit.  Despite this the Lady Lakers continued to hustle played the entire game as if we were down by only a few points.

Laker's Defeat a Tough Judson University Men's Team

The Laker’s men’s team went on the road Tuesday night and defeated Judson University from the very strong Chicagoland [sic]Collegiate Athletic Conference by the score of 93 – 86. The Lakers were led in scoring by Milwaukee native Javaughn Freeman with 32 points. He entered the game at the 15:00 mark of the first half and hit his first 7 shots from the floor. Anthony Parker of Gainesville, Florida had 18 points and John Duke from Milwaukee contributed 17 to round out the Lakers who scored in double figures. Derek Domino of Parkland, Florida had 6 points to go with his 12 assists and 10 rebounds.  Andrew Eck led the Judson Eagles with 19 points and Scott Nelson added 17.

Lakers Fall to Strong Viterbo Team Nov. 1

On Friday night, the Silver Lake College Lakers men’s basketball team lost to a strong, veteran Viterbo University team, 81-57. The game was closer than the score may indicate as the Lakers held a five-point lead in the first half before going into the Locker room down ten. The Lakers cut the ten-point half time deficit to six early in the second half before Viterbo’s senior post player, Cole Lewis, took over scoring thirteen of his fifteen points in the second half.

SLC Cross Country Prepares for the USCAA National Championships

The Silver Lake College of the Holy Family Cross Country team is preparing to compete at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships on Friday, November 8th, in Syracuse, New York.  The event is hosted by the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF).  The team will have representatives in both the Men’s 8K and Women’s 6K races.

Silver Lake College to Send Four Runners To USCAA Cross Country National Championships Nov. 8

The Silver Lake College of the Holy Family Cross Country team is preparing to compete at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships on Friday, November 8th, in Syracuse, New York. The event is hosted by the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF). The team, led by head coach Ryan Roberts and assistant coach Mike Cavanaugh, will have representatives in both the Men’s 8K and Women’s 6K races. The College will host a pep rally for the runners on Wednesday, November 6th at 12:00 pm in the College Cafeteria (first floor, main building), 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc.

Lady Lakers Win in Fond du Lac

The Lady Lakers played solid defense in a 58 to 36 victory over the Lady Falcons. The Lady Lakers struggled early from the field shooting only 26% from the field notching only 19 points for the half. The team had some great looks but could not get the ball to fall. The hustling defense allowed only 16 points the first half giving us a three point lead going into the locker room. The team came out the second half determined to finish their shots. We shot a respectable 40% the second half pulling away from UW Fond du lac early in the second half. The team worked extremely well together especially in the second half. Our defensive effort was outstanding holding a very good team to 38 points for the game.
