Men are Defeated by NCAA D-II Lake Superior State University

Yesterday the men’s basketball team traveled to Sault Ste. Marie and lost to a strong Lake Superior State University team out of the NCAA D-II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 92-55. Our Lakers played their Lakers toe to toe throughout the first half. Lake Superior State, who took NCAA D-I Central Michigan into overtime before falling a week earlier, jumped out to a 14-7 lead four minutes into the contest. However our Lakers went on a 9-0 run and took the lead 16-14 with thirteen and a half minutes left. Our Lakers extended the lead to 20-16 half way through the half before Lake Superior went on a 15-0 run to take the lead for good 31-20.

Lady Lakers vs Ashford University

The Lady Lakers basketball team fell to 3-2 last night with a loss to a strong Ashford University team 66-43. Despite playing hard, the Lady Lakers did not shoot well in the first half and relied on really good defense to keep them in the game with a halftime score of 31 to 21. They continued to struggle with shooting in the second half and Ashford opened up a 16 point lead. The Lady Lakers never gave up and with excellent defense and some timely shots pulled within 8 points by midway through the second half. Ashford then went on a 8 to 0 scoring run giving them a 16 point lead, and the Lady Lakers could not make up the difference. Leading the way for the Lady Lakers were Courtney Clavers from Brillion with 11 points and Raelyn Woock with 10 points and 4 steals. Next, the Lady Lakers take on UW Manitowoc on Wednesday December 4th at 6:00 pm.

Men's Basketball Tournament at Viterbo

This past weekend the men’s basketball team traveled to LaCrosse, Wisconsin to play in the Viterbo Invitational tournament. On Friday night, the Lakers fell to the host Viterbo Red Hawks 79-53. The Lakers were led in scoring by Chris Jones from Milwaukee with 13 points. Anthony Parker from Gainesville, Florida added 9 points. Aaron Davis from Springfield, Ohio and Wesley Dowell of Ekron, Kentucky each contributed 6 points, Tyler Wells of Canton, Ohio contributed 5 points and Jon Billingslea of Detroit, Michigan and John Duke from Milwaukee scored 4 points each. The Lakers scoring was rounded out by Javaughn Freeman from West Allis and Derek Domino of Parkland, Florida who each contributed 3 points.

Lakers fall to Northland International University

The Lakers lost a close game last night at Northland International University by the score of 81-78 on a last second shot from deep in the corner. The team came out looking tired and turnovers were a challenge. At one time they held a 6 point lead but were then down by 8 points several times. In the end Northland determined the outcome of the game.

Lady Lakers Defeat Northland International University

The Lady Lakers improved their record to 3-1 by defeating the Northland International University Lady Pioneers by the score of 79 -69. Our young team is beginning to play very well together especially on offense. Everyone on the roster scored points last night. Despite having some lapses on defense, we played well on offense working the ball around and getting some very good looks to the basket. Leading the Lady Lakers was Courtney Clavers with a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Gerhard from Iron Mountain, Michigan came off the bench and added 17 points. Lyndsay Holschbach added 10 points.

Men's Basketball Game v. St Xavier

This past Saturday, the Men’s basketball team took on the NAIA D-II 11th rated St Xavier Cougars at home. The near capacity crowd did not have to wait long for excitement. Darius Barnes, a Freshman from Milwaukee scored 10 of his Laker Leading 28 points in the first three minutes including two monster dunks as the Lakers jumped out to a 10-5 lead. The Lakers continued to go toe to toe with the Cougars and took a 47-45 lead into the locker room at the half thanks to a great tip in at the buzzer by Sophomore Austin Allen Walker from Milwaukee.

Cross Country National Championship Update

We have exciting news from cold and snowy New York. Mary Bettag had a very impressive run finishing 29th. The top 25 receives All American status. She just missed that honor. Taylor VandenPlas also did extremely well with a 55th place. Sophia Chin ran and great race for her 1st National appearance, finishing a respectable 110th place. All three young ladies represented Silver Lake extremely well.

Men's Basketball Team Falls to Calumet College of St Joseph at the Bradley Center

Last night the Silver Lake College men’s basketball team fell to the Calumet College of St Joseph Crimson Wave 84–78 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Calumet, a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, jumped out to a 17 point lead in the first half as the Lakers came out sluggish from the start. In the second half, the Lakers came out with the hot hand and erased the 17 point deficit tying the score on a 3 point shot with eight minutes left by sophomore Dru Harris from Appleton. Calumet regained the lead for good on the next possession. The Lakers had four players in double figures; Javaughn Freeman led the way with 13 and John Duke, Darius Barnes and Anthony Parker each contributed 12. Other players contributing to the comeback were Tyler Wells sophomore from Canton, Ohio with 3 points, Austin Walker 6 points, Raul Neri 2 points, Dru Harris 6 points, Kyle Lundberg 6 points and Derek Domino with 6 points.

Lady Lakers vs Judson University, Tuesday November 5

The Lady Lakers basketball team played extremely hard but could not pull out victory against a very tough Judson University team. Despite playing very hard on defense throughout the game the young Lady Lakers lost by a score of 88 to 67. Turnover is what hurt us especially early in the game. We were down by as much as 18 points in the first half. With adjustments in our defense and were able to pull within 8 points in the first half. In the second half we again turned the ball over early, and went quickly to a 14 point deficit.  Despite this the Lady Lakers continued to hustle played the entire game as if we were down by only a few points.

Laker's Defeat a Tough Judson University Men's Team

The Laker’s men’s team went on the road Tuesday night and defeated Judson University from the very strong Chicagoland [sic]Collegiate Athletic Conference by the score of 93 – 86. The Lakers were led in scoring by Milwaukee native Javaughn Freeman with 32 points. He entered the game at the 15:00 mark of the first half and hit his first 7 shots from the floor. Anthony Parker of Gainesville, Florida had 18 points and John Duke from Milwaukee contributed 17 to round out the Lakers who scored in double figures. Derek Domino of Parkland, Florida had 6 points to go with his 12 assists and 10 rebounds.  Andrew Eck led the Judson Eagles with 19 points and Scott Nelson added 17.
