Men's Basketball Tournament at Viterbo

This past weekend the men’s basketball team traveled to LaCrosse, Wisconsin to play in the Viterbo Invitational tournament. On Friday night, the Lakers fell to the host Viterbo Red Hawks 79-53. The Lakers were led in scoring by Chris Jones from Milwaukee with 13 points. Anthony Parker from Gainesville, Florida added 9 points. Aaron Davis from Springfield, Ohio and Wesley Dowell of Ekron, Kentucky each contributed 6 points, Tyler Wells of Canton, Ohio contributed 5 points and Jon Billingslea of Detroit, Michigan and John Duke from Milwaukee scored 4 points each. The Lakers scoring was rounded out by Javaughn Freeman from West Allis and Derek Domino of Parkland, Florida who each contributed 3 points.  

On Saturday in the Consolation game, the Lakers took on the Valley City State University Vikings from North Dakota. The Lakers found themselves down by as many as 12 points early but battled back to go into the locker room down 5 at the half. The Lakers came out strong in the second half, and with ten minutes left in the game took their first lead 57-54 on a 3 point basket by Javaughn Freeman of West Allis. The game was tight the rest of the way. But in the end the Vikings made their free throws to hold on to the victory. The Lakers were led in scoring by Javaughn Freeman with 24 points and 6 rebounds. John Duke from Milwaukee added 23 points on 12 for 22 shooting from the field including 4 for 8 from beyond the three point line and 3 for 3 from the free throw line. Darius Barnes from Milwaukee continues to dominate on the glass with a game high 14 rebounds to go with his 15 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Lakers, Chris Jones of Milwaukee added 5 points and 6 rebounds and Derek Domino of Parkland, Florida added 3 points to go with his 4 assists.

Tomorrow the 2-6 Lakers travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for another tough game when they take on the Lake Superior State University Lakers. Lake Superior State is a member of the extremely tough GLIAC NCAA D-II conference. The next home game for our Lakers is this Thursday when they take on Lakeland College at 7:00 pm.
