PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

A Bachelor of Arts in graphic design offers students a program that focuses on critical thinking, design principles, history and professional practice. This program provides students with a creative and professional learning environment to develop a command of visual language utilizing art and design principles, and practices with theory, imagination and technology. Students will be prepared to competitively pursue full-time work in the graphic design field.

Program LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Students will be prepared for professional careers in the fine arts by developing foundational skills while implementing design elements and principles using a variety of media.
  2. Students will be prepared to participate in dialogue and research regarding diverse cultures, ethnicities, art history, art criticism and aesthetics in order to creatively interpret and express ideas reflective of the global society.
  3. Students will be prepared to use critical thinking in synthesizing the knowledge and skills gained through a liberal arts education that fosters a commitment to Franciscan values, service and leadership.

Graphic Design Major

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

PROGRAM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Acceptance into Silver Lake College of the Holy Family through the admissions process.
  • Transfer students will have initial coursework assessed by art faculty.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of one-third of the required courses must be completed through Silver Lake College of the Holy Family.

INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • A 3.0 cumulative GPA in the initial 6 foundation/core courses taken at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family must be maintained.
  • Midway through a program, sophomores will participate in a portfolio review which will be assessed by art faculty.

PROGRAM EXIT REQUIREMENTS

  • A senior exhibit is required for all art majors. An art professional will be invited to the college to jury the student’s work.
