PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 Bachelor of Music in Performance and Pedagogy will prepare students for professional work as a performer and studio teacher. The Bachelor of Music in Performance in Pedagogy is a professional degree that will prepare students to pursue advanced work at the graduate level or pursue careers in performance, collegiate teaching or private teaching.

Bachelor of Music in Performance and Pedagogy is accredited by National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

Program Learning Outcomes

To achieve its goal, the music program provides instruction opportunities for students to:

  • Develop competencies in the areas of solfege singing, aural skills, music theory and analysis, arranging, composition and improvisation.
  • Develop competencies in the areas of composition and analysis including composing, arranging, analysis of music literature and implementing music technology for these purposes.
  • Develop competencies in the areas of music  performance, both solo and ensemble.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in the area of musical repertory and styles from many cultures and historical periods.
  • Develop pedagogical, leadership and business skills necessary to teach in a private or group setting, perform professionally and/or prepare for graduate study.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

PROGRAM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Students interested in the music major must attend Music Jumpstart Day. The assessments given during this day will ensure proper placement in music courses.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of one-third of the required courses must be completed through Silver Lake College of the Holy Family.

PROGRAM EXIT REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must earn a “C” or better in each music course to count towards degree requirements.
