Certification - Orff Schulwerk

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is known around the world as a center for Graduate Music Education and its Kodaly Summer Graduate Music Program. Building upon this success, Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is launching its Orff Schulwerk Certification Program – Level I in the summer of 2019.

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family’s Orff Schulwerk Certification Program – Level I will be held July 15-26, 2019 in the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Throughout these two weeks, educators will develop an understanding of the teaching and learning process using the Orff Schulwerk approach to music and movement. Conducted in a joyful and upbeat atmosphere, students will study technique and improvisation, analysis and arranging, pedagogy, movement and recorder as required by the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA).

Students have the option to enroll in the Orff Schulwerk Certification Program – Level I for graduate credits or noncredit. Those who enroll for graduate credit will earn three graduate credits. All students who successfully complete the two-week course will be awarded the AOSA level certificate acknowledging participation and number of course hours. (NOTE: This certificate is not the Orff Schulwerk Certificate from AOSA – this is awarded upon completion of all three levels of Orff Schulwerk levels of training.)

Master of Music in Music Education - Kodály emphasis

Master of Music in Music Education - Kodály emphasis

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family was the first to offer a master’s degree in Kodály education and has since enjoyed a coveted reputation in excellence. Music educators can earn a Master of Music in Music Education with a Kodály emphasis in just four summers. Graduate students also have the option of earning a Kodály certification (OAKE endorsed) in just three summers. This summer’s program will take place July 1–12, 2019.

We are proud of the history Silver Lake College of the Holy Family shares with Kodály. Sister Lorna Zemke, music professor emeritus at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, is internationally regarded as a top scholar/practitioner and Kodály music educator. Our faculty challenges students in the classroom while preparing them for their classroom. Students will tell you the program is intense, but it truly changes the way they teach.
