Interlibrary Loan Policies
Request Materials from a Network of Libraries
The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Department supports the research and information needs of Silver Lake College students, faculty, staff and other members holding an active library borrowing card (Courtesy Card) by providing access to material not owned by our library through participation in a partnership of other libraries. In turn, the ILL Department reciprocates by providing the same services to other participating libraries.
Those eligible for ILL services are currently registered Silver Lake College students, faculty, staff, and those who hold a active Courtesy Card issued from the library (Religious, Townspersons, Alumnea). ILL requests should be submitted using the InterLibrary Loan Request Form or by submitting the print version. ILL forms can also be found at the Circulation Desk.
Types of Materials:
- Materials that can be requested through ILL include books, some media types, articles, theses and dissertations, government documents, conference proceedings, and reports. Items owned by Silver Lake College Zigmunt Library that are checked out can be requested only if they are due back in more than three days. If they are due back in three days or less, a hold can be placed on the items at the circulation desk.
- Materials that cannot ordinarily be requested include textbooks required for a Silver Lake College class, some media types, and entire issues of magazines or journals (most article requests will be filled with a photocopy of the article needed).
Duration of Loans:
The lending library established the due date on material it loans. The loan period averages two to four weeks from the date of receipt. Failure to return material on time may result in restriction or loss of ILL privileges and/or library privileges.
The lending library determines whether renewals are allowed. Any request for renewal should be made at least 4 days prior to the due date specified on the item. All items are checked out to requester, but may not be renewed through requesters Online Library Account. Please contact the library (920.686.6174 or firstname.lastname@example.org) to request a renewal.
Most costs for ILL services are absorbed by the library except for photocopies ($0.10/pg) and any fines for overdue materials. Replacement costs (amount determined by lending library) may be charged for lost or damaged materials.
