Student Group Coordinating Door-to-Door Collection for Hope House of Manitowoc on Saturday 10/27/12

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is coordinating a Week of Service for our students from October 22 to 27, 2012 (our students enjoy a fall break on Monday and Tuesday, October 22-23). On Monday and Tuesday students will participate in a Habitat for Humanity house build in Manitowoc, and on Thursday and Friday they will help clean up an adopted section of highway and a local park. On Saturday, October 27 between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon, we are asking for help from members of the Manitowoc community for our “Make a Difference Scavenger Hunt.” Several teams of students will be going door to door in the city of Manitowoc collecting much needed supplies for Hope House of Manitowoc County, a local homeless shelter. Hope House serves homeless families, couples without children, and single women in Manitowoc County who are willing to follow program guidelines to lead them back to self-sufficiency. "Women Woven Together by a Common Thread" Art Exhibition Starts October 15

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, 2406 South Alverno Road, invites the public to attend Guest Artist Exhibit: Women Woven Together by a Common Thread.  Participating artists include Colleen Ansbaugh, of Manitowoc, WI; Ramona Gillaume, of Denmark, WI; and Anne Phillip, of Stevens Point, WI. Each woman’s individual body of work is linked to that of the other through a common love and exploration of fiber as a medium. The artist’s methods and creative manipulations of that material range from traditional to non-traditional mixed media. The exhibit, which brings together these three distinct artistic visions, will be in held in the Silver Lake College Hallway Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Department (accessed through the East Entrance), from October 15 through November 16, 2012. The exhibit is open to the public at no charge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Porta Fidei; The Renewal of Faith and the New Evangelization, October 18 at 7:00 pm

Pope Benedict XVI has pronounced a “Year of Faith” for Catholics that began on October 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. In recognition of this Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is pleased to present a colloquium titled "Porta Fidei; The Renewal of Faith and the New Evangelization." Sister Marie Kolbe Zamora, S.T.L., Director of the Silver Lake College Theology Program, will be speak on Pope Benedict XVI's letter Porta Fidei on Thursday, October 18th from 7:00-7:45 PM in the Silver Lake College Chapel, located at 2406 South Alverno Road in Manitowoc. The event is free and open to the public. Area Children are Invited to Join the Silver Lake Children's Choir

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is delighted to expand its music education offering to children in grades 1-6 through the formation of the Silver Lake Children’s Choir, under the direction of Damon Carlson, Artistic Director, and Carol Storck, Music Director. Any child with an interest in singing can enroll - no audition is required. Rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings at Silver Lake College in the Fine Arts Theater (room 144), located in the music wing on the lower level of the main academic building. Students in grades 1-3 will rehearse from 5-6 p.m., and students in grades 4-6 will rehearse from 6-7 p.m. The first rehearsals will begin Sunday, October 14, 2012. The Silver Lake Children’s Choir will perform at two concerts: Saturday, December 1, 2012 – Christmas at Silver Lake; and Saturday, April 27, 2013 – Spring Choral Concert. Each choir group will perform independently, as well as with the adult choirs of Silver Lake College.
