Silver Lake College Presents “Brass, Faculty & Friends” Recital Nov. 1, 7:30 pm

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family Department of Fine Arts is delighted to present the “Brass, Faculty and Friends” music recital on Friday, November 1st, 2013 at 7:30 pm. The recital will take place in Bob & Pat Endries Hall, a 464-seat theater located in the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on the campus of Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc. There is no charge for admission.

Silver Lake College Presents Bonnie de Arteaga Art Exhibit Through November 24

Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, invites the public to attend “Phrasebook,” a guest artist exhibit featuring works by Wisconsin native Bonnie de Arteaga. Following a career in graphic arts and public relations, she returned to hand printmaking in 1999 under Christine Style at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. de Arteaga shared studio space and artistic vision with five artist friends at the Main Street Art Works co-op in Hilbert, Wisconsin.  For nearly 15 years, she has created mixed media prints, sculptures and encaustic paintings. de Arteaga’s work has appeared in national and international exhibitions, and has been acquired for the corporate collections of Bellin Health in Green Bay and Northwestern Mutual in Milwaukee. Her latest encaustics come from her impressions of tile patterns of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. This exhibit will be in held in the Silver Lake College Art Wing Gallery (inside the East Entrance to the College on first floor) through November 24th, 2013. Exhibit hours are 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Friday and Saturday.

Silver Lake College hosts Look Ahead Lakers Campus Visit Day Oct. 24

Over 100 fifth graders from local elementary schools came to Silver Lake College on October 24th for the 2013 Look Ahead Lakers Campus Visit Day 24th. The day began with a rousing opening ceremony in Bob & Pat Endries Hall in the new Franciscan Music Center, and then the students broke up into small groups led by Silver Lake College student mentors to participate in actual college classes and learn about life on campus. Silver Lake College to Host Open House for New Franciscan Music Center on October 26

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family and the Holy Family Conservatory of Music are delighted to host a public open house for the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance on Saturday, October 26, from 1:00-4:00 pm. The new 35,000 square foot building, which opened to faculty and students before the start of fall classes in August and was dedicated on October 4th, is now home to the College Music Program and the Conservatory, both founded and sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. Located on the west side of the Silver Lake College campus at 2406 South Alverno Road in Manitowoc, the facility has a 464-seat theater and a spacious glass and stone atrium that seats 200 for banquets, as well as modern classrooms, music studios and practice spaces that are being enjoyed by students and faculty. The open house will include tours, light refreshments and music.

Silver Lake College to host Laura Newman Exhibit through Oct 24 and Artist Talk with Casting Demonstration Oct 23 at 11 am

Silver Lake College of the Holy Family is delighted to host a public art exhibition entitled “Moments” by Wisconsin native, Laura Newman in the College Cafeteria Gallery through October 24, 2013, open to the public 8 am to 8 pm Monday through Thursday and 8 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday. Newman will also give an “artist talk” and casting demonstration on Wednesday, October 23rd at 11:00 am in room 102 (Art Wing inside the East entrance to the College, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc). Newman graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, with a BFA, emphasis in photography.  Not feeling challenged enough by two-dimensional arts, such as photography and painting, she began experimenting with sculpture.  After studying primarily ceramics at the Anderson Ranch and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she is currently pursuing an MFA at Illinois State University.  Moments is a collection of figurative works created in porcelain.  First using body casting techniques, Newman created intimate and abstracted sculptures of loved ones and friends.  Newman states, “Evidence of the human touch and the smooth, and creamy qualities of the porcelain complement the forms of the body that are exemplified in this work.”

Silver Lake College Presents Fall Choral Concert Friday Oct. 18, 7:30 pm

The Silver Lake College of the Holy Family choral ensembles, directed by Damon Carlson, will present their Fall Concert on Friday, October 18 at 7:30 pm. The performance will be held in the beautiful, 464-seat Bob & Pat Endries Hall in the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance at Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc. The concert will feature the Silver Lake Chorale, Concert Choir and Children’s Choir, as well as the newly formed Silver Lake String Ensemble. Silver Lake College Art Classes Collaborate on Public Drawing

If you’ve entered Silver Lake College through the art wing entrance during the past few weeks, you’ve probably stopped and marveled at the attention-grabbing charcoal drawing on the pavement, which features a small human figure gazing up at a bare, towering tree. Above the drawing, a quote by St. Francis of Assisi reads, “He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.” The drawing was a collaboration of art professor Erin LaBonte’s Drawing and Composition I and II classes.

Silver Lake College Presents Fall Instrumental Concert

The Silver Lake College of the Holy Family instrumental ensembles, under the baton of Jeremiah Eis, will present their Fall Concert on Friday, October 11 at 7:30 pm. The performance will be held in the beautiful, 464-seat Endries Hall in the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance at Silver Lake College, 2406 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc. The concert will feature the Silver Lake Jazz and Wind Ensembles, and also include a premier performance by the Silver Lake Saxophone Ensemble.
