Silver Lake College, Diocese of Green Bay Collaborate to Present Pope John XXIII Symposium on May 1

Posted on April 11 2014

The Pope John XXIII Symposium, titled “Jesus the Evangelist: Holy, Engaged, Alive!” will be held May 1 at Silver Lake College, 2406 S. Alverno Road.

Silver Lake College and the Diocese of Green Bay are collaboratively sponsoring the event, which will be a day of adult faith formation for teachers, catechists, young adults, youth ministers and everyone interested in the New Evangelization.

Registration is from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at the new Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, located on campus. The event begins with a 9 a.m. Mass in the College Chapel, located in the adjacent main building on campus. The Mass will be led by Bishop David Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay.

Afterward, conferences will be held back at the Franciscan Music Center.

Ricken will lead one of those conferences; his presentation is titled “The Call to Holiness in the New Evangelization.”

Other featured presenters are Bishop Ricardo Ramirez, bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Las Cruces (N.M.), and Allan F. Wright, Academic Dean of Evangelization for the Diocese of Paterson (N.J.).

Ramirez, an educator and theologian, recently received the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award. He’ll speak about Pope Francis’ call to reach out to the most vulnerable and poor in our society.

Wright, presenting two conferences, will discuss the life of Jesus Christ, the ways he evangelized and how people and parishes can evangelize each day by following Jesus’ example.

Other dignitaries scheduled to participate are Dr. Chris Domes, President of Silver Lake College; Julianne Stanz, Department of New Evangelization for the Diocese of Green Bay; and Joe Bound, Ph.D., Director of Education for the Diocese of Green Bay.

Each conference is scheduled to run 40 to 45 minutes, with a 45-minute lunch held after the first two are completed. The symposium is scheduled to conclude at 3 p.m.

Admission is $25, which includes lunch and a copy of Wright’s book, “Jesus the Evangelist: A Gospel Guide to the New Evangelization.”
